Freaked out by GPS tracking- but could I use it?

So I have been looking at GPS tracking to somehow 'locate ' the pots that I intend to make. I had been freaked out by google maps and how I have been tracked already for years. However, could I use it? Is there a way I could fit some kind of tracker into the pots once buried to give a response in real time viewing?

I intend to speak to my brother who is an electronics engineer.
