Fitzwilliam Museum

This was an interesting visit to the visit as I found something I had not seen before which was a clay burial jar (c 2700 bc ) . The jar contained the bones of a child. So this was probably a precursor to sarcophagi and ritualistically different to that of celtic burial urns .Not only that it seemed a stark difference to the grandeur of the sarcophagus situated adjacent to it.

The fitzwilliam also has some examples of Derbyshire ceramics, the decorator is mentioned , but from what I have read on their information, the display is incorrect. I tried to get to speak to the curator to explain that it should say Billingsley not Billingsleym but the staff were quite unhelpful so I left.
