Internal light

I have a large shell in the bathroom and I was taken by the way light passes through it. Its translucency is similar to that of porcelain. The growth rings draw a parallel with growth rings in a tree and the apparent layers Within a core sample. I really liked the way the striations were highlighted in the thickness of material and wondered how or if this might translate into porcelain core layers.
