Edward Burtynsky

Burtynsky says in his website statement that; “The concept of the landscape as architecture has become, for me, an act of imagination. I remember looking at buildings made of stone, and thinking, there has to be an interesting landscape somewhere out there because these stones had to have been taken out of the quarry one block at a time.''

I was really taken by the work of Edward Burtynsky . When I was a child I used to visit my father at work in an open cast mine. The images of stratification of rock appeals and calls to mind thoughts again of archaeology and time. When he talks about the blocks of stone being used for buildings then I actually get sense of inferred time and permanence being transferred from the ground to the building.
