Ceramic Body - Time Place and Memory

...In reverse order...

Luckily the smaller sketch fitted into the kiln, was hot today still as I took it into the group tutorial!

A flavour of the very successful Christmas event we held this year! This gave me another opportunity to consider how ceramics is viewed as an art form through discussions about my work. The experimental pieces were on show but not for sale. I think the difference doesnt necessarily lie with the work or the maker or the fact that ceramics is seen predominantly as craft but the audience you have available to see the work. I had plenty of 'thats interesting' comments and many wanted to know a bit more, but obviously this wasn't a buying situation for that kind of work either....

Disaster has struck, and at our busiest time at the studio. The large kiln has failed due to elements and a contactor problem, so I can’t yet fire my larger work! Not only that other users are trying to fire their work to sell in Christmas markets, and our students want their work for gifts to take home! I have a plan but I still won’t be able to fire the larger piece in time for assessment….

I have a back up kiln I can switch it for but it is untested and I need to get an electrician to do it.
